Can the window on a soap box be any shape?
Yes, within limits. Ovals, circles, slots and custom outlines all work, as long as the board between the window and a fold stays about 8 mm wide.

Written prices from £0.25 a box. Free proof, made in 4–6 business days, free tracked UK delivery.
Window soap boxes let the customer see the swirl, the colour and the texture of the bar before they pick it up. We cut the window to the shape you want, oval, round, slot or your own outline, and fit clear film behind it or leave it open.

| Bar | Typical box and window |
|---|---|
| 100 g rectangular bar | About 90 x 60 x 30 mm box with a 45 x 30 mm oval |
| 120 g swirled bar | About 95 x 65 x 35 mm box with a 50 mm round window |
| 150 g loaf-cut bar | About 100 x 70 x 35 mm box with two 12 mm slots |
| Round 90 mm bar | About 95 x 95 x 35 mm box with a 60 mm circle |
Window soap boxes are printed soap cartons with part of a panel cut away so the bar shows through.
The cut-out can be an oval on the front, a circle on the end, two slots or a shape drawn to match your logo. Film behind the window is optional, and the box is sized to your bar.
A window turns the bar into the label.
A pink box with an oval cut-out shows a creamy bar, a kraft box with a round window shows a marbled orange one, and a cream box with two slots frames an oat-flecked bar between them.
Customers pick up a bar they can see far more often than one they cannot. That matters on a crowded market table and on a gift shop shelf.
The window also lets the scent through on an open cut-out. Many makers choose no film for exactly that reason.
The shape should follow the bar and the artwork.
A tall oval suits a box that stands on end, a circle suits a square box, and two narrow slots suit a long bar with a pattern that runs end to end.
Leave 8 mm or more of solid board between the edge of the window and the nearest fold line. Any less and the panel weakens at the crease.
Custom outlines are possible. A leaf, a wave, a keyhole or the shape of your logo all work as long as the narrowest part of the board is still about 6 mm wide.
| Window | Where it sits | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Oval, about 45 x 30 mm | Front panel, standing box | Plain or two-tone bars |
| Round, 50 to 60 mm | Front panel or end | Swirled and marbled bars |
| Two slots, about 12 mm wide | Front panel, either side of the label | Oat, poppy seed and layered bars |
| Full front cut-out with film | Front panel | Bars with a stamped logo |
| Custom outline | Front or lid | Brand shapes and seasonal runs |
Clear film keeps dust and fingerprints off the bar and holds it in if the box is turned upside down.
It is the safer choice for shop stock that sits on a shelf for weeks.
An open cut-out shows the true colour with no shine and lets the customer smell the bar. It suits markets, fairs and short stays on a counter.
Film is fitted on request before the boxes are sent, so they still arrive flat. Our cosmetic box styles guide explains window cut-outs alongside the other constructions.
Any maker whose bars look good is a candidate.
The ones below come up most often in our quotes.
For plain bars, or bars that are wrapped first, a solid carton is often the better buy. Our printed soap boxes without a window cover that.
The box is sized exactly as a plain carton would be.
Measure the cured bar, add 3 to 5 mm on each side, and tell us the numbers.
The window is sized from the bar, not the box. Leave about 10 mm of bar hidden on each side of the opening, so the edges of the window sit on soap rather than on air.
For bars that vary in colour from batch to batch, a smaller window is kinder. It shows a sample of the bar rather than every blemish.
A window takes board away from the front panel, so the board around it has to work harder.
We suggest about 350 gsm folding boxboard as the minimum and quote heavier board on request.
Print runs right up to the window edge. A printed frame, a border or a foil ring around the opening makes the cut-out look planned rather than punched.
White board with full colour CMYK carries the florals and fruit illustrations most makers want. Kraft board with one colour print suits natural ranges. Finishes such as foil, matt lamination and spot UV are options, and the guide to foil, spot UV and lamination helps you choose.
The window is the weakest point of the carton, so a boxed bar needs a little more care in a parcel.
Front-window boxes stand on their end with the bar facing out.
Group the colours together and the shelf does the selling.
End-window boxes lie flat and stack. The circle on the end shows the bar from the side, which works in a basket or a crate at a market.
A set of three window boxes in a tray makes a tidy gift, and our gift and subscription box range covers the trays and sleeves that hold them.
Cutting the window too close to a crease is the first.
The panel bows and the film lifts.
Putting the window where the label should be is the second. Leave a solid panel for the scent, the weight and your name.
Using an open cut-out on soft bars that will be posted is the third. The bar marks easily through the opening, so order film for mail-order stock and open windows for counter stock.
Tell us the bar size after curing, the window shape, film or no film, the board and how many you need.
Each order is priced on its own terms, with £0.25 per unit the starting rate, and confirmed in writing.
You get a free proof showing the window outline over your artwork. Once that is signed off, cutting and printing take 4 to 6 business days. UK delivery is free and tracked, usually 2 to 3 business days door to door.
A box that arrives misprinted or crushed is replaced or refunded if we hear within 10 days and get photos. Send your bar details through the quote form for window soap boxes and we reply with a written price.
Choose a real photo of the box you have in mind, put your logo on it, pick a colour and finish, and send it over. Our designers turn it into a free, print-ready proof.

The more we know about what goes inside, the bottle or jar, the quantity and the look you are after, the sharper the price. A packaging specialist replies within one business day with a written quote and a free design proof.
