What are magnetic lid perfume boxes?

Magnetic lid perfume boxes are rigid greyboard boxes with a hinged lid that closes onto magnets set into the board.

A foam or card insert cut to the bottle's outline holds the glass, and the inside of the lid can be printed. They arrive assembled, with board, wrap and finish options confirmed on a written quote.

How does a magnetic lid perfume box close?

Two small magnets sit inside the front edge of the lid, under the wrap where you cannot see them.

Two matching steel plates or magnets sit in the front wall of the base.

Bring the lid down and it pulls itself shut for the last centimetre with a soft click. There is no tab, no ribbon tie and nothing to tear.

The lid is hinged along the back on the wrap itself, so it folds right back and lies flat. That is what lets the inside of the lid carry print, as in the black and gold box pictured.

Which fragrance sellers choose magnetic perfume boxes?

Perfume houses selling a 100 ml flagship scent use them because the box feels like part of the purchase.

Customers keep it on a dressing table and the lid gets opened every day.

Clinics and salons use a magnetic box for a signature scent sold at the desk, or as a thank-you gift for a treatment course.

They also appear in wedding gifts, corporate gifts and limited editions for Valentine's and Mother's Day. For a set of two or three bottles, the perfume collection boxes for multi-bottle sets use the same closure on a wider footprint.

  • Flagship 100 ml editions from independent perfume houses
  • Clinic and salon signature scents sold at the desk
  • Corporate gifting of a single boxed bottle
  • Valentine's and anniversary editions
  • Press and influencer mailings that must look unboxed on camera

What size magnetic box fits a 100 ml perfume bottle?

Start with the bottle laid out the way it will sit.

Upright is the usual choice for a tall spray, with the box standing like a small book. Laid flat suits a wide bottle and gives a lower, longer box.

Add the insert. Foam walls of 15 to 20 mm around the bottle look generous and protect the cap. A 55 x 35 x 145 mm bottle ends up in a box about 110 x 90 x 180 mm.

Leave 5 mm above the cap. The lid should close without touching glass, or every bump in transit transfers straight to the bottle.

Board, wrap and construction

The shell is rigid greyboard, usually about 2 mm thick.

It is cut, scored and folded into a base and a lid, then wrapped in a printed paper that covers every edge.

The wrap is where the print lives. It is printed flat, laminated if you choose, then glued around the board and turned in at the edges. Corners are wrapped by hand, which is why rigid boxes cost more than cartons.

Thicker board is an option for a larger box so the lid does not bow. Board, rigid and finish options are available on request, and the cosmetic box styles guide compares the magnetic lid with drawer and sleeve styles.

Print and finishes on a magnetic perfume box

Black, deep green and navy wraps with a gold or copper foil pattern are the most requested look, and the photos show why.

Foil on a soft touch wrap catches light while the ground stays flat.

Full colour print works too. A painted floral across the lid, or a photo of the bottle, prints well on a gloss or matt laminated wrap.

The inside of the lid is the bonus panel. Print a message, a line about the scent or a pattern there, because the customer sees it every time they open the box. Our guide to foil and soft touch finishes shows what foil looks like on dark board.

How does the insert hold the bottle?

A foam insert is cut to the bottle's outline so the glass drops into a snug well.

The foam can be flocked or wrapped in a matching paper so it looks finished rather than industrial.

A card insert does a similar job at lower cost. It is a folded card platform with a cut-out for the bottle base and a support near the shoulder.

Either insert is available on request. Tell us the bottle shape and whether you want a second well for a 10 ml travel atomiser or a card beside it.

  1. Send the bottle, or its measurements with the cap on.
  2. Choose foam or card, and the colour or wrap of the insert.
  3. Decide on extra wells for a mini, a card or a sample vial.
  4. We cut the insert to suit and show it on the proof.
  5. The insert ships fitted inside the finished box.

Will a magnetic perfume box survive the post?

Better than most.

The rigid shell takes knocks that would crease a carton, and the insert stops the bottle moving. The magnets keep the lid shut even if the parcel lands on its side.

Still wrap it. Put the box in an outer mailer with a little padding, so the wrap's corners do not get scuffed by a courier bag.

Boxes arrive assembled, so plan storage. Fifty magnetic boxes for a 100 ml bottle take about the space of a large suitcase, where fifty cartons would fit in a drawer.

Shelf, counter and unboxing

Stood upright, a magnetic box shows the front of the lid like a book spine out.

Keep the name there and the pattern around it.

On a counter it is often shown open, lid folded back, with the bottle in its insert. The inside lid print is on show then, so make it worth looking at.

For social media unboxing, the slow pull of a magnetic lid films well. That is a real reason brands pick this closure for press mailings.

What mistakes do people make with magnetic perfume boxes?

Ordering the box too tight is the first.

A lid that touches the cap when closed will mark the cap and strain the hinge.

Skipping the inside lid print is the second. The panel is there whether you use it or not, and a blank black lid inside looks unfinished next to a printed one.

The third is picking a pale wrap for a box that will be handled daily. Light soft touch wraps show marks within weeks; a darker wrap or a matt lamination lasts far longer.

How do I order a magnetic lid perfume box?

Send the bottle measurements, the quantity you have in mind and any artwork.

Pricing is from £0.25 per unit and quantities are quoted per order, with everything set out in a written quote.

We send a free design proof showing the wrap flat and the box in 3D with the insert. After approval, production takes 4 to 6 business days and free tracked delivery to any UK address takes 2 to 3 more.

Damaged or misprinted boxes reported within 10 days with photos are reprinted or refunded. Use the quote form for magnetic perfume boxes or WhatsApp a photo of the bottle to begin.

Magnetic Lid Perfume Boxes: questions buyers ask

Not answered here? Call +44 7578 382054, message our packaging team on WhatsApp or email info@thecosmeticpackaging.co.uk.

Are the magnets visible on a magnetic perfume box?

No. They sit under the wrap in the lid edge and the front wall. You feel the pull but never see the metal.

How strong are the magnets on a perfume box lid?

Strong enough to hold the lid shut when the box is tipped or dropped a short distance, but easy to open one-handed. Two magnets are standard; larger boxes can take four.

Can the inside of a magnetic perfume box lid be printed?

Yes, inside lid print is an option. It is the panel the customer sees every time they open the box, so most brands use it.

Does a magnetic perfume box come with the foam insert fitted?

Yes. When you ask for a foam or card insert, it is cut to your bottle and glued in place before the box is packed.

Can a magnetic perfume box hold a bottle and a travel atomiser?

Yes, the insert can be cut with a second well for a 10 ml atomiser, or a slot for a card or a sample vial.

Do magnetic perfume boxes ship flat?

No, they are rigid boxes and arrive assembled with the lid closed. Allow storage space for them before the order arrives.

Can you foil a pattern on a black magnetic perfume box?

Yes, foil stamping is an option on the wrap. Gold, copper, silver and coloured foils all print on a black or dark ground.

What is a book-style magnetic box?

It is a magnetic lid box hinged along the back edge, so the lid opens like a book cover and lies flat. Most magnetic perfume boxes are built this way.
