Can a bath bomb window box be made without film?
Yes, an open cut-out is an option. It suits bombs that are already shrink wrapped, since nothing then dusts out.

Written prices from £0.25 a box. Free proof, made in 4–6 business days, free tracked UK delivery.
Folding cartons with a die cut window on the lid, the front or wrapped around a corner, so the colour of the bomb sells it from the shelf. Film or open windows, sized to your mould.

Bath bomb window boxes are folding cartons with a die cut opening in one or two panels, usually fitted with clear film, so the bath bomb is seen before it is bought.
They come as single cubes, lid and base boxes or three-pack trays with a strip window. We cut the window to your bomb size and confirm it on a written quote.
A bath bomb is a colourful object, and a closed carton hides the one thing that sells it.
A window lets the shopper see the swirl, the colour split and the size before they pick it up.
That matters most on a shelf next to other makers. In the photo, a two-tone blue and lilac bomb shows through a rounded window that wraps the front corner of a white box.
Windows also cut disappointment at fairs. A customer who has seen the product is less likely to be surprised by it at home.
A bath bomb window box is a folding carton with a die cut opening in one or two panels, usually fitted with a clear film.
The rest of the carton is printed as normal.
The white box in the photos is a lid and base style, with the window on the front panel. Smaller single boxes use a tuck end with a round window on the lid.
Three-pack versions have a long window along the lid showing all three in a row. Our plain and divided bath bomb boxes cover the same sizes without the cut-out.
The shape of the window changes what the buyer sees and how strong the panel stays.
A few shapes cover most briefs.
Leave at least 12 mm of solid board from the cut edge to the nearest crease, or the panel folds through the opening.
| Window | Where it sits | Shows |
|---|---|---|
| Round, a little smaller than the bomb | Lid or front panel | A circle of colour, like a porthole |
| Rounded rectangle | Front panel | The whole bomb and the base of the box |
| Wrap-around corner | Front and side | Two faces of the bomb, as in the photo |
| Long strip | Lid of a three-pack | All three bombs in a row |
| Shaped cut, such as a drop or a heart | Lid | A brand motif with colour behind it |
Film is the usual option.
It keeps powder in, fingers out, and slows the scent fading. It also stops the bomb taking in moisture from a damp shop.
An open window with no film is an option when the bomb is already shrink wrapped. It costs less and keeps the box fully board, which some makers prefer.
A third route is a window with a printed pattern on the film. We can proof that too, though it hides part of the product. Soap makers face the same choice, which is covered on our window soap boxes page.
Measure the bomb across its widest point.
A 60 mm bomb needs a box about 65 to 70 mm inside, and a window around 50 mm across so the bomb cannot pass through it.
For the wrap-around style, the bomb must sit against the window to be seen, which means a card insert or a snug fit. A bomb that rolls to the back of the box leaves the window empty.
Send the bomb if you can. We size the carton and the window together, and the proof shows both. Typical box sizes for other products are in our guide to cosmetic box sizes.
Window boxes are a retail box more than a postal box.
They suit any place where the product is seen before it is bought.
For a counter unit holding twelve at once, see our bath bomb counter display boxes instead.
White boxboard, around 350 to 400 gsm, is the normal choice, because pastel print needs a white base.
Kraft board is an option if the brand is rustic.
Print the panel around the window in a soft wash and keep type away from the edge. The photo uses a pale wave graphic along the bottom and the name above the window.
Matt lamination is an option that stops fingerprints on a white box handled in a shop. Foil on the lid and a spot UV motif are options for a gift version. Our beauty packaging finishes guide covers laminations in detail.
A little.
Cutting a panel removes board that was holding the shape, so a very large window on a thin board flexes.
We keep windows inside a border, pick a heavier board where the cut is large, and avoid cuts across folds. Film adds some stiffness back when it is glued on all four sides.
For heavy jumbo bombs, a window on the lid rather than the side keeps the load-bearing walls whole.
Ordering an open window on an unwrapped bomb.
The powder dusts onto the shelf and the box looks tired within a week.
Placing the window where the bomb does not sit. The customer sees a cardboard back wall. An insert or a snug fit fixes that.
Printing dark colours up to the window edge. The cut-out then shows any tiny shift in the die, so leave a pale border. Position the window against your artwork in the Design Your Packaging section first.
A window box takes one extra decision, film or no film.
Runs are priced on their own count, from £0.25 per unit, confirmed in writing before we start.
If a batch arrives marked or crushed, photos inside 10 days get it remade or refunded. Use the window box quote request page or WhatsApp us.
Choose a real photo of the box you have in mind, put your logo on it, pick a colour and finish, and send it over. Our designers turn it into a free, print-ready proof.

The more we know about what goes inside, the bottle or jar, the quantity and the look you are after, the sharper the price. A packaging specialist replies within one business day with a written quote and a free design proof.
