Can a cylinder perfume box be made for a square bottle?
It can, but a square bottle wastes space in a round tube and may rattle. A square bottle is usually better in a carton or rigid box, and we will say so on the quote.

Written prices from £0.25 a box. Free proof, made in 4–6 business days, free tracked UK delivery.
Round rigid tubes wrapped in your print, with a lift-off lid that seats on an inner collar. Made to the diameter and capped height of a round bottle, with a foil rim or coloured collar as options.

| Container | Typical box size |
|---|---|
| 10 ml roll-on | 30 mm across x 95 mm tall |
| 30 ml round spray | 50 mm across x 100 mm tall |
| 50 ml round spray | 55 mm across x 120 mm tall |
| 100 ml round spray | 70 mm across x 160 mm tall |
Cylinder perfume boxes are rigid paper tubes with a separate lid that lifts off and seats on a raised inner collar.
They suit round bottles, which rattle in a square box. The tube is wrapped in printed paper, holds a card or foam disc for the bottle base, and is made to your diameter and height on a written quote.
Round bottles are a problem in square boxes.
They touch the walls at four points and roll between them, and the corners of the box are wasted space.
A cylinder box wraps the bottle in a tube of the same shape. There is nowhere to roll, the walls are close all the way round and the box looks like the bottle it holds.
It also stands out on a shelf of cartons. A row of rectangular boxes with one tube among them draws the eye without any extra print.
The base is a tube closed at the bottom with a card disc.
Glued inside its top edge is a slightly narrower collar that stands proud by 10 to 15 mm.
The lid is a short tube, the same outside diameter as the base, that slides over the collar and stops when it meets the base rim. The join is a thin line, which is why many brands pick it out with a foil or coloured band.
Lift the lid and the collar shows, as in the charcoal and gold boxes pictured. A collar in a contrast colour is a cheap way to make the opening feel deliberate.
Niche perfume brands with a round bottle, often a stubby 50 ml with a broad cap, use the tube for their whole line.
Roll-on and oil brands use a slim tube for 10 ml bottles.
Candle makers who have added a room spray or a solid perfume often already use tubes and like the match across the range. Barbers selling a cologne at the chair pick the tube because it stands on a narrow shelf.
The perfume oil, dropper and roll-on boxes page covers the slim 10 ml formats in carton form if a tube is more than you need.
Measure the widest diameter, which is sometimes the cap rather than the glass, and the full height with the cap on.
Add about 5 mm to the diameter and 8 mm to the height.
A 50 ml round bottle of 48 mm across and 110 mm tall ends in a tube about 55 mm across and 120 mm tall outside. A base disc of foam or card takes a little of that height.
Keep the lid proportion in mind. A lid about one third of the total height looks balanced. A very short lid looks like a cap, and a half-height lid looks like two boxes.
| Bottle | Bottle size, about | Tube outside, about | Lid height, about |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 ml roll-on | 22 x 85 mm | 30 x 95 mm | 30 mm |
| 30 ml round spray | 42 x 90 mm | 50 x 100 mm | 35 mm |
| 50 ml round spray | 48 x 110 mm | 55 x 120 mm | 40 mm |
| 100 ml round spray | 62 x 150 mm | 70 x 160 mm | 55 mm |
The tube is spiral-wound paperboard, built up in layers to a wall of about 1.5 to 2 mm.
It is stiffer against crushing than a flat box of the same board, because a curve resists pressure from the side.
The printed wrap is a flat sheet, laminated if you choose, then rolled around the tube and glued along one seam. The top and bottom edges are turned in or capped with a disc.
Textured and linen wraps suit a tube well, since the texture hides the seam. Board, rigid and finish options are available on request.
Artwork is laid out flat, as a rectangle that wraps the tube.
The seam is placed at the back, so keep the name and any pattern repeat away from one edge of the artwork.
Type reads best running horizontally around the curve, in a band the eye can take in without turning the tube. Vertical type on a tube is fine for a short name only.
Foil stamping, spot UV and embossing are all options on the wrap before it is rolled. A foil band on the collar or the lid rim is the detail most brands add. Our foil, spot UV and embossing guide shows them on board.
The bottle base needs a disc.
A foam disc with a cut-out holds the base still; a plain card disc just lifts it off the floor. Either is on request.
For a roll-on or oil bottle that is much narrower than the tube, a foam plug with a central hole keeps it centred. It also stops the cap touching the lid.
A tube is not sealed. If the bottle will travel by post, put the tube in a mailer with padding at both ends so the lid cannot be pushed off.
A tube has no front, which is both the charm and the challenge.
Place the name so it reads from the most likely angle. Repeat a small mark on the lid top for customers looking down at a counter.
A rim band in foil or a bright collar marks the join and gives the eye a line to rest on. It also hides any slight misalignment between lid and base print.
Tubes stack poorly, so plan for them standing. Three across on a shallow shelf is typical for a 55 mm tube.
The common fault is a lid that is too tight.
Paper wraps swell a little in a humid stockroom and a lid with no clearance then needs two hands to open.
Another is a tall thin tube for a tall thin bottle with no base disc. The bottle tips inside and the cap scratches the wrap.
The last is squeezing legal text around a small diameter. A 30 mm tube cannot carry an ingredient list at readable size, so plan a hang tag or a base label.
Send the bottle diameter and capped height, or post a bottle to us.

It can, but a square bottle wastes space in a round tube and may rattle. A square bottle is usually better in a carton or rigid box, and we will say so on the quote.
The lid slides over an inner collar glued inside the base. Friction between the collar and the lid holds it, with no magnet or tab.
Tubes around 30 mm across for a 10 ml roll-on are common. Below that the wrap becomes hard to print, so ask and we will advise.
Yes, the inner collar can be wrapped in a contrast or foil paper. It shows when the lid is lifted and is a popular detail.
A foam or card disc for the bottle base is available on request. A foam plug with a central hole suits narrow roll-on bottles.
The inside of the lid can be lined with a coloured or printed paper. Full print on the inside wall of the tube is limited, so ask on the quote.
A spiral-wound tube resists side pressure better than a flat box of the same board. Pad both ends in the mailer so the lid stays on.
About 5 mm on the diameter and 8 mm on the height, including the base disc. The cap must not touch the lid.
Yes, a foil band on the lid rim or the collar is an option. It marks the join and reads as a finish detail.
They are best stood upright in a row. Lids are flat enough to stack two high for storage, but not for display.
