Can a hexagonal perfume box hold a square bottle?
Yes, with a foam insert cut square inside the hexagon. It is a better fit for a round bottle, but a square one works where the look matters.

Written prices from £0.25 a box. Free proof, made in 4–6 business days, free tracked UK delivery.
Six-sided rigid boxes with a lift-off lid, double-door boxes that open from the centre on a clasp, and other shapes built around your bottle. Textured wraps, foil bands and ribbon pulls as options.

Hexagonal and shaped perfume boxes are rigid or folding boxes cut to a shape other than a plain rectangle: a six-sided column, a box with two doors that swing open, an octagon or a tapered form.
They are made around your bottle in greyboard or boxboard, printed and finished to your brief, and confirmed on a written quote.
The hexagon is the most asked for.
Six flat faces and a six-sided lid, like the red box pictured, give a column that stands out among rectangles and still packs tight on a shelf.
The second is the gatefold, or double-door box. Two doors meet at the front on a clasp and swing outward to show the bottle standing in a tray. The brown box with the hexagonal catch is one.
Beyond those, octagons, tapered boxes that are wider at the top, triangular prisms and pillow shapes are all possible. Each needs its own cutting form, so the shape is agreed before the quote.
Brands with a round bottle like the hexagon because it hugs a cylinder better than a square box does, with less dead space in the corners.
Perfume houses launching a single statement scent use a gatefold for the counter. Opened, it becomes its own display stand with the bottle framed between the doors.
Oud and attar sellers pick shaped boxes for Eid and wedding gifts, and gift shops stock them for the look alone. For sets of several bottles in one shaped case, the perfume collection boxes for multi-bottle sets page covers the layouts.
A hexagon has two widths: across the flats, from one face to the opposite face, and across the corners, which is about 15 percent more.
We quote across the flats.
For a round bottle, the across-flats measure is the bottle diameter plus about 10 mm with a thin insert. With a full foam insert, add 25 to 30 mm instead.
Height is the capped bottle plus 10 mm. A lid of about a third of the height looks right on a hexagon. The red box pictured has a shallow lid with a ribbon lift, which keeps the faces tall for print.
| Bottle | Across flats, about | Across corners, about | Height, about |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 ml round, 42 mm across | 65 mm | 75 mm | 120 mm |
| 50 ml round, 50 mm across | 80 mm | 92 mm | 150 mm |
| 100 ml round, 62 mm across | 95 mm | 110 mm | 175 mm |
| 100 ml with a tall stopper | 95 mm | 110 mm | 195 mm |
A gatefold box is a rigid base with two half-width doors hinged on its left and right edges.
The doors meet at the front and are held by a clasp, a magnet or a ribbon.
Inside, the bottle stands on a raised tray or in a foam well. The inner faces of the doors are on show when open, so they are usually lined in a contrast paper or printed.
The catch on the box pictured is a hexagonal plate with a magnet behind it. A plain magnetic close with no visible catch is also an option, as are a ribbon tie and a tab.
Rigid shapes use greyboard of about 2 mm, cut and grooved so each face folds against the next, then wrapped.
A hexagon is wrapped in one piece around all six faces, with the seam on a back corner.
Shaped folding cartons, such as a hexagonal carton with a tuck top, use boxboard of about 350 to 400 gsm and ship flat. They cost less and suit a retail run.
Every new shape needs its own cutting form. That is a one-off cost, included in the quote, and the form is kept for your repeat orders. Board, rigid and finish options are available on request. The guide to tuck, magnetic and drawer box styles explains the standard forms shaped boxes are built from.
Six narrow faces change how artwork is laid out.
Treat two adjacent faces as the front and let the name span the corner between them. Or keep the name on one face and run a pattern on the rest.
Leather-grain and textured wraps are a natural fit for the hexagon and the gatefold. A foil band around the base, as on the red box, picks out the shape without extra print.
Full colour on a smooth wrap, soft touch lamination, foil stamping, spot UV and embossing are all options. Our guide to foil and textured finishes shows how each reads on grained paper.
A hexagonal box takes a hexagonal foam insert with a round well, or a card platform shaped to the base.
Either is on request and shown on the proof.
Gatefold boxes carry the bottle on a tray, and a well in that tray stops it toppling when the doors open.
Shaped rigid boxes do not nest, so plan mailers that fit them. A hexagon sits in a square mailer with padding at the corners; a gatefold goes in a mailer that keeps the doors shut.
A hexagon shows two faces at once from most angles, so artwork that wraps across a corner reads better than a single centred mark.
Hexagons tile. Seven boxes in a honeycomb on a counter take less room than seven cartons and look planned.
A gatefold is made for a counter. Open the doors, stand the bottle on the tray and the box does the display work without a stand or a card.
Sizing across the corners instead of the flats is the common slip, and it leaves the bottle rattling in a box 15 percent too big.
Ordering a gatefold with blank inner doors is another. The doors are what the customer looks at when the box is open, so give them colour or print.
The last is forgetting that shaped boxes do not ship flat. Fifty hexagonal rigid boxes for a 100 ml bottle need a cupboard, not a drawer.
Send the bottle measurements, a sketch or photo of the shape you want and the quantity.
Shapes are quoted per order from £0.25 per unit, and the quote lists the box, wrap, insert and cutting form.
A free proof shows the box flat, closed and open. After approval, production is 4 to 6 business days and free tracked delivery to any UK address takes 2 to 3 business days.
Report any misprint or damage within 10 days with photos and we reprint or refund. Start with the quote form for shaped perfume boxes or WhatsApp a sketch.
Choose a real photo of the box you have in mind, put your logo on it, pick a colour and finish, and send it over. Our designers turn it into a free, print-ready proof.

The more we know about what goes inside, the bottle or jar, the quantity and the look you are after, the sharper the price. A packaging specialist replies within one business day with a written quote and a free design proof.
