What are bath salt boxes?

Bath salt boxes are printed cartons that hold a sealed pouch or jar of bath salts for retail or posting.

The usual style is a gable-top carton with a window and a hanging loop. Sets sit in a rigid tray with dividers. You choose the size, board, window and print, and the written quote confirms it all.

What is a bath salt box?

A bath salt box is a printed carton built around a sealed pack of salts.

The salts themselves stay in a pouch, a jar or a lined bag, and the box carries the branding, the window and the weight.

The gable-top style in our photos is the one most makers ask for. The roof-shaped top folds closed and a loop at the peak hangs the pack from a hook. A round window low on the front shows the crystals.

Sets work differently. Two or three jars sit in a rigid tray with a divider, often with a fourth compartment for loose crystals or a scoop.

Who orders printed bath salt boxes?

Bath salt makers are a varied bunch, and the box has to suit the way each of them sells.

A hook-hung carton that works on a salon shelf is wrong for a mail-order subscription, and the reverse is just as true.

Most of the brands we quote fit one of the groups below. If you sell bath bombs alongside salts, the rest of our bath and body packaging range covers them with matching print.

  • Aromatherapy blenders selling lavender, eucalyptus and citrus salts by scent
  • Spa and salon counters that hang retail packs beside the till
  • Bath and body makers selling at markets and through marketplaces
  • Skincare start-ups adding a mineral soak to a facial range
  • Gift shops and farm shops that want a three-jar set for weekends and birthdays

What size box does a 250 g salt pouch need?

Measure the pouch when it is filled and sealed, not flat.

A 250 g stand-up pouch with a gusset is usually about 85 mm wide, 45 mm deep and 110 mm tall once it is standing.

Add about 5 mm on the width and depth and about 10 mm of height for the gable fold. That gives a box of around 90 x 50 x 120 mm, which is the most common size we quote in this range.

Jars are easier because they do not change shape. A 250 ml screw-top jar is about 70 mm across and 90 mm tall. A 75 x 75 x 95 mm tuck end box holds it snugly.

A longer list of pouch and jar sizes, each with the box that suits it, is in the packaging guide for bath bombs and salts.

Which board carries the weight of salt?

Salt is heavy for its size.

A 500 g pack hanging from a loop puts real strain on the gable. The board needs to be heavier than a lipstick carton would use.

For hanging cartons we usually suggest folding boxboard nearer 400 gsm than 350. The loop area is doubled over or reinforced. Kraft board gives a market-stall look and takes one colour print well.

Three-jar sets belong in rigid greyboard with a printed wrap. The tray does not flex when the jars are lifted out, and the divider keeps glass from knocking on glass. Ask about rigid, board and finish choices when you request a price.

The guide to cosmetic box styles explains how a gable top, a tuck end and a lid and base tray each close.

Windows and hang loops on a salon shelf

A window does one job on a bath salt carton.

It shows the colour and grain of the crystals, which is what the customer is buying. Pink mineral salts, coarse white sea salt and lavender flakes all look different through film.

Keep the window in the lower half of the front panel. That is where the pouch is fullest, so the crystals press against the film instead of leaving an empty gap at the top.

The loop at the gable turns the carton into a hanging pack. Salons and spa retail corners hang them from pegs beside the counter, which takes no shelf space at all.

Pegs are not the only way to sell. On an open counter, a flat-topped carton or one of our bath bomb display boxes for counters may suit you better.

Print and finishes that suit bath salts

Most salt ranges are sold by scent, so the print usually colour-codes each one.

Lavender in lilac, blueberry in blue, citrus in orange, with the fruit or flower drawn large around the window.

Full colour CMYK handles that kind of illustration well. A matt lamination option keeps the carton clean under salon lighting and resists the odd damp hand.

Foil on the brand name at the gable works because that panel faces the customer at eye level on a peg. Spot UV and embossing are also options, and our designers will tell you which suits your artwork.

Each effect is pictured on a real carton in the finishes guide for beauty packaging.

How do you pack bath salts for the post?

Salts shift in transit and a torn pouch leaves a gritty mess in the box.

A few habits keep a mail-order pack clean on arrival.

  1. Heat seal the pouch or check the jar lid is tight before it goes in the carton.
  2. Choose a carton that holds the pack without a gap, so the pouch cannot slide and rub.
  3. For single pouches posted alone, use a kraft mailer with a sheet of tissue folded over the pack.
  4. For jar sets, keep the divider in and add a tissue square above the jars so the lid does not rattle.
  5. Tape nothing to the printed carton itself; put the address on the outer mailer.

Can one box hold a set of jars?

Yes, and this is the style gift shops ask for most.

A rigid tray about 230 x 190 x 70 mm takes a 500 ml jar and two 250 ml jars. A fourth compartment holds loose crystals, and a lift-off lid goes over the top.

The compartment walls are made from the same board as the tray and glued in place. A card insert on request holds each jar still, which matters when a customer carries the set home in a bag.

If you want a sleeve rather than a lid, or a magnetic closure, those are options we quote as well. Our gift box and subscription box range has more set styles.

Mistakes to avoid when ordering bath salt boxes

The common one is sizing the carton to an empty pouch.

Filled pouches bulge, so a box cut to the flat size will not close.

Another is putting the window high on the front. The top of a pouch is the seal, so the customer sees film and a crimp instead of salt.

Light board on a hanging pack is the third. A 500 g carton on a thin loop tears at the peg within a week, which is why we ask the pack weight before quoting.

Finally, do not print the net weight in the artwork until you have weighed a sealed pack. Changing it later means a reprint.

How to order bath salt boxes

Send us the pouch or jar size, the pack weight, the number of scents and a rough quantity.

There is no fixed minimum: each job is priced on its own numbers, starting at £0.25 per unit, and we put the price in writing.

Our designers set your artwork onto the carton for free and send a proof. Nothing is printed until you approve it, and production then takes 4 to 6 business days.

Your cartons travel free, with tracking, to wherever you are in the UK, normally arriving two to three business days after dispatch. A misprint or damage reported within ten days, photos attached, gets a reprint or a refund. Start by filling in the bath salt box quote form or message us on WhatsApp.

Bath Salt Boxes: questions buyers ask

Not answered here? Call +44 7578 382054, message our packaging team on WhatsApp or email info@thecosmeticpackaging.co.uk.

Do bath salt boxes come with the pouch inside?

No, the box is the product. You fill your own sealed pouch or jar and the carton is sized to hold it.

Can a bath salt box hang from a peg?

Yes. A loop or hook slot is cut through the gable top on request, and we reinforce that area for heavier packs.

Will salt crystals show through the window?

They will if the window sits in the lower half of the front, where the filled pouch presses against the film.

How heavy a pack can a bath salt carton hold?

Gable cartons in 400 gsm board carry 250 g and 500 g packs well. For 1 kg packs we suggest a locked base and quote the board on request.

Can you make a bath salt box for a glass jar?

Yes. Tell us the jar diameter and height, and we cut a tuck end or lid and base box to hold it with a snug fit.

Do you make trays for a set of three bath salt jars?

We do. A rigid tray with glued dividers and a lift-off lid is the usual choice, with a card insert on request.

Can each scent of bath salt have a different box colour?

Yes. Several colourways can run in one order, and we confirm how the quantity splits on your quote.

Is the window on a bath salt box covered?

A clear film is fitted behind the window as standard. An open window without film is possible on request.
