Can I have a different shade name printed on each lipstick box?
Yes. Within one order at one box size, each shade can have its own name or colour swatch on the panel. Tell us the shade list with your artwork.

Makeup lines mixing several box styles
Cosmetic boxes are printed cartons and rigid boxes made for makeup, lash, nail and beauty products. The style follows the product: a tuck end carton for a mist, a lid-and-base box for a palette, a drawer for brushes, a window box for a lipstick. We cut each one to the item inside and print it in your colours for UK brands.
Bold all-over artwork on tins and bottles
Printed cosmetic boxes are cartons and rigid boxes where the artwork covers the whole box rather than a label stuck on plain board. Print can be full colour CMYK, two colour or one colour, on the outside, the inside or both. The artwork is set on the exact dieline of your product and checked on a free proof before the run.
Single bullet tubes and shade range sets
Lipstick boxes are small printed cartons made to hold one lipstick tube, or a tray box that holds a set of shades. Most single cartons are tuck end folding boxes about 25 mm square and 85 mm tall. Set boxes are usually rigid with a magnetic lid and a cut insert, and we confirm both on a written quote.
Wand gloss tubes, lip oils and three-shade kits
Lip gloss boxes are printed cartons shaped around a gloss tube, which is taller and thinner than a lipstick case. A single carton is usually about 25 mm wide and 110 to 120 mm tall. Drawer boxes with a black card insert and trio window boxes are the other two styles we make.
30 ml pump bottles across a wide shade range
Foundation boxes are printed folding cartons sized to a foundation bottle, tube or compact. The common one is a tall carton for a 30 ml pump bottle, about 40 mm square and 125 mm high. Shade names and numbers are set as a changing panel, so a range of 20 shades runs on one design.
Kits with a palette, brushes, sponge and tubes
Makeup boxes are printed boxes made for a kit of several makeup items, or for a single compact or palette. Kit boxes are usually rigid with a magnetic lid and a cut insert, often with a mirror panel in the lid on request. Single item boxes are folding cartons sized to the compact.
Sets of 5 to 15 brushes and single pro brushes
Makeup brush boxes are printed boxes made for a set of brushes, with a tray that holds each handle in its own slot so the heads do not touch. Most are drawer boxes or lid and base boxes about 200 to 240 mm long. Single brush cartons are also made for one brush sold on its own.
Till-side displays at stockists and salons
Cosmetic display boxes are printed counter units that hold a run of products upright at the till or on a shelf. A tray with dividers keeps each item in its own cell, and a header panel folds up at the back to carry the brand. They are made from board, shipped flat and sized to the product they display.
Strip lashes sold by studios and lash brands
Eyelash boxes are small printed boxes made to hold a pair of strip lashes on a clear tray. Most are about 105 x 55 mm and 20 to 25 mm deep. The common styles are a window carton, a slide drawer box and a rigid magnetic lid box, each cut to the tray inside.
Polish collections and salon retail bottles
Nail polish boxes are printed boxes for glass polish bottles, either a carton for one bottle or a collection box with an insert for several. A single 15 ml bottle takes a carton about 34 mm square and 85 mm tall. Collection boxes are usually rigid with a magnetic lid and a card or foam insert.
Makeup packaging is a wider job than skincare because the products are so different in shape.
A lipstick is 20 mm across; a brush set is 200 mm long; a palette is flat and a nail polish bottle is squat with a tall cap.
This range has a box for each of those shapes, plus two general cartons and a counter display. Lash and nail studios have their own items here because they order often and in small runs.
The ten products, with the job each one does.

Independent makeup brands, lash studios and nail salons order most of these boxes.
Studios often sell their own branded lashes or polishes alongside treatments, so they need small runs that still look retail.
Marketplace sellers and online beauty shops need a carton that photographs well and survives a parcel. Private-label brands buying filled stock need boxes before the stock arrives.
For a single item in a plain folding carton, start with cosmetic boxes in a tuck end style. They cover most small makeup products at the lowest cost.
A standard lipstick bullet is about 19 to 21 mm across and 70 to 75 mm tall, cap on.
Its carton is roughly 23 x 23 x 78 mm inside. Squeeze tubes and chubby sticks are wider, so measure your own.
Lip gloss tubes vary more. A 5 ml wand tube is about 20 mm across and 95 to 110 mm tall, so the carton is close to 23 x 23 x 115 mm. The box in our photos holds the tube in a black tray with a side-opening front.
Sets change the shape entirely. A six-lipstick box lays the bullets side by side in a slotted insert about 170 x 90 mm. Lipstick boxes for singles and sets cover both.
| Product | Typical product size | A common inside box size |
|---|---|---|
| Lipstick bullet | 20 mm wide, 73 mm tall | 23 x 23 x 78 mm |
| 5 ml lip gloss wand | 20 mm wide, 105 mm tall | 23 x 23 x 115 mm |
| 30 ml foundation pump bottle | 35 mm wide, 125 mm tall | 39 x 39 x 135 mm |
| Pair of strip lashes on a tray | 95 x 65 mm tray | 100 x 70 x 20 mm |
| 15 ml nail polish bottle | 33 mm wide, 75 mm tall | 37 x 37 x 80 mm |
| Set of 10 brushes | Longest brush 200 mm | 220 x 130 x 35 mm |
Foundation bottles with a pump are the item most often boxed too short.
The pump head adds 20 to 30 mm above the bottle shoulder, and some pumps unlock a further 10 mm.
Measure the bottle with the pump locked and the cap on, then add 5 mm. A 30 ml glass bottle with a pump comes to about 125 mm, so the carton is around 135 mm tall.
Glass foundation bottles are heavy for their size. Foundation boxes with a snug fit are made in 350 to 400 gsm board and can take a card insert at the base.
Lash boxes are small, square-ish and ordered in quantity.
The usual format is a lid-and-base or drawer box about 100 x 70 x 20 mm, with the lashes on a clear or card tray inside.
Studios tend to want a soft colour, a script logo and a small window so the lash style shows. A window needs a clear film on the inside of the lid, which we fit as an option.
Eyelash boxes with a drawer or lid can carry a different lash name on each box within one order, as long as the box size is the same.
Sets need an insert that holds each piece in its own slot.
For nail polish, the insert is a card or foam layer with a round cut-out per bottle, about 35 mm across, so the glass bottles never touch.
Brush sets go in a drawer box with a slotted insert. Each brush lies in its own channel, bristles up, so the handles do not scuff the hair. The dark drawer box in our photos holds ten brushes with the handles showing when the drawer slides out.
Nail polish boxes for single bottles and sets are quoted with the insert included once we know the piece count.
Give the number of pieces and the largest piece size and the designer draws the insert to suit.
Single-item cartons use 350 to 400 gsm folding boxboard.
That is stiff enough for a lipstick or gloss and prints well in full colour. Kits and sets with a mirror or an insert move to wrapped greyboard, because the box is opened and closed many times.
Drawer boxes are built from two rigid parts, a sleeve and a tray, with a ribbon or thumb cut to pull the tray. Makeup brush boxes with a slotted drawer are the clearest example. Magnetic lid boxes have a magnet in the lid and a steel plate in the base, hidden under the wrap.
Counter displays use a heavier folding board, often with a double-layer base, so a full display does not sag. Rigid, board and finish choices are all options you can ask for on the quote.
Makeup buyers judge a box in a second, so the print carries the brand.
Full colour CMYK across every panel is the usual choice, with the front panel kept simple and the pattern on the sides and back.
The pastel cartons in our photos show this: a wave pattern in four colours, one line of type, nothing else. Foil on the logo adds shine. Soft touch lamination gives the velvety feel that premium lipsticks use.
Printed cosmetic boxes with full-colour patterns are the item to look at if the design is the point.
A kit box is a rigid lid box with a mirror in the lid and a shaped insert in the base.
Each product sits in its own cut-out: a compact, a lipstick, a brush, a sponge. The insert is drawn from your piece sizes.
Kits are the most work to set up and the most striking on a shelf. Allow a few days more for the proof, because the insert layout usually goes through two versions.
Makeup boxes with a mirror and insert are quoted once we have the list of pieces and their sizes.
A display box arrives flat, folds up in a minute and holds twelve to twenty-four small items in a grid.
The header panel at the back carries the brand and the product name at eye level.
Displays work for lip balms, glosses, mini polishes and single lashes at a salon desk or a shop counter. The cells are cut to the product, so a gloss display and a lipstick display are different dielines.
Cosmetic display boxes with a header can be printed to match the cartons that sit inside them.
Most problems show up on the proof, which is why the proof is free.
A few come up often enough to list.

For sets and displays, a photo of the pieces laid out together helps the designer more than a description.
Choose a real photo of the box you have in mind, put your logo on it, pick a colour and finish, and send it over. Our designers turn it into a free, print-ready proof.

The more we know about what goes inside, the bottle or jar, the quantity and the look you are after, the sharper the price. A packaging specialist replies within one business day with a written quote and a free design proof.
